So I got to talking to my grandmother recently on the topic of how dating etiquette has evolved over the past generations, and let me tell you, it has definitetly changed from what she tells me!
She said that guys always came to the door to get her on a date and would always meet her parents. The, when leaving her house, he date would open the car door for her. The kind of dates they would go on would be movies, dances, and maybe getting a bite to eat. The dances were not like we know either. They were ballroom dances---with polka music...I don't know if I could even dance to that...haha. Get this, when my grandma would be walking down the sidewalk with a guy, the guy would always be on the side closest to the street in case a car would drive by in a puddle and splash water. Heck, guys now days would probably push their girlfriend in a puddle because they would think it was funny. Also, my grandma didn't have a telephone! I know right?! How many of us would be lost without our phones! I know i would be!
Then I talked to my dad, he said things didn't change a whole lot except for the kinds of dates he went on...my dad grew up in the 70's, so as I was talking to him, I had disco songs running through my head...hahaha...jk....but he said when he went on a date they would usually go out to a pizza joint or hit up a drive in movie, and sometimes go to concerts--which is not exactly a ballroom dance ;)
Now lets talk about our current year of 2010. Dates usually consist of going to a party together. Usually you just meet there, and then drive yourself home. The next day, one might send a text, but if not, no big deal....lets just say teh world of dating has become a heck of lot more casual...I'm guess I'm getting used to it though...
